CONGRATULATIONS TO BALEÀRIA!

Baleària has hit a milestone after the retrofit of its ferry Abel Matutes, built in Barreras, marking the first time that an LNG engine has been used in a Mediterranean passenger ship.

The new LNG engine is integrated in the ship's electrical plant, allowing operation with any of the auxiliaries. A statement explained that the vessel consumes natural gas in the approach and exit maneuvers of the port and for the production of electric energy during the time it is docked, replacing the usual fuel. The ferry, which has a length of 190 meters, has a capacity of 900 people and 2,235 linear meters of roll cargo. With the implementation of this system, emission reductions and annual savings of around 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), more than 60 tonnes of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and 6 tonnes of sulfur oxide are achieved (SOx ).

The project is part of the Cleanport initiative and is co-financed by the European Union through the CEF-Transport program.
